Uniformity and quality are key words in decorating the public spaces in the
'Park Caumerbron' new-construction project in Heerlen, South Limburg.
The roads, parking spaces and some of the pathways are made of paving
bricks produced by Kleiwarenfabriek Joosten Kessel. The municipality
of Heerlen has commissioned a large number of low walls and pillars
separating the public and private areas. These walls and pillars are
made of the same paving bricks as used in the paving. This is a good
example of optimal harmonization between walls and paving.
The red Passau (JK3135)
bricks are used in the roads, while yellow
Rimini (JK3313)
bricks and black Odesa (JK3425)
bricks are used for the parking areas and pathways.
The same black Odesa (JK3425)
paving bricks are incorporated into the pillars and walls.
"The use of high-quality paving bricks in 3 different colours gives
'Park Caumerbron' an air of quality and ultimately contributes to
the pleasant living environment", states project leader André van
den Boorn, of the Town Planning Department at the municipality of Heerlen.
Prefab
The district of 'Park Caumerbron' is made up of two parts, divided naturally by the Caumerbeek stream. The total plan comprises 12,000 m2 of paving. The black walls and pillars that divide the premises are delivered ready-made. A prefabricated, glued brick construction has been chosen for this, for which the walls, pillars and concrete foundations have been supplied by CRH. "We wanted an aesthetically pleasing solution which allowed the black in the walls to be accentuated. This required thin, almost invisible pointing. That's why we opted for a glued brick construction instead of traditional brickwork", explains André van den Boorn. The uniform use of the paving bricks in 'Park Caumerbron' gives this plan an image of quality, and makes it an attractive place in which to live. This urban development plan was partly designed by Frans Knooren at the municipality of Heerlen.
